The first panel of the conference room mural is finished and I'm so thrilled with it! Each panel is an abstracted portrait of a student, all prepped and painted by 6th and 7th graders. This project has taken a while to get off the ground but it is gaining momentum. Hopefully I'll be posting a picture if the finished piece in a few weeks.

I was just scrolling through some old photos and found some great ones of me with some pretty amazing illustrators I have met in my travels- Grace Lin of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, Stan Sakai of Usagi Yojimbo, Sergio Aragonés creator of Groo the Wanderer, and Jeff Smith illustrator of Bone. So here is my Throwback Tuesday... because that is a thing, right?

Empty Bowls, clay, and the classroom

Today I had some fun making a little clay bowl for the Empty Bowls event I'm organizing at the middle school. I have been so focused on teaching the kids how to make bowls that I hadn't made any time to work on my own. So here is The product of today's little adventure, a petit bird nest bowl that I hope sells. I am really more of a 2D thinker so this was a nice departure from the usual. Hopefully I don't wreck it when it comes time to glaze.
